Kannur University is in the process of establishing a Medicinal Plants Garden(MPG) at its headquarters located in Thavakkara, Kannur.This Garden will serve as a Conservatory for a diverse range of medicinal plants, which play a vital role in various health care systems.
The primary objective of establishing the garden is to raise awareness on the significance,uses traditional applications,and conservation of medicinal plants. Medicinal plants hold a crucial place in healthcare systems worldwide.In India,Ayurveda stands as a prominent ancient healthcare tradition,alongside other systems such as Siddha,Unani and traditional medicine.India has a rich heritage in the field of medicinal plants ,and our garden aims to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge regarding these ancient traditions.Moreover, it will play a vital role in education, awareness, and research concerning plant species used in medicinal applications.
Kannur University attracts a wide range of visitors,including students,researchers,farmers,and the public.Therefore, the Medicinal Plants Garden is sure to be a valuable resource for students and the public alike.The Sanjeevani Garden features a collection of 70 different medicinal plant species based on Indian Systems of Medicine(ISM),including some rare and valuable specimens.The establishment of this garden has been made possible through financial assistance from the State Medicinal Plants Board(SMPB), Kerala and the National Medicinal Plants Board(NMPB)in New Delhi, as part of the National Ayush Mission(NAM)program.
